Safe Online Payment and OTP Practices
Practical safety habits for OTPs, card PINs and online payments - how to recognise common fraud patterns and protect yourself while using card or payment-related services.
Never share your OTP, even under pressure
An OTP exists to confirm that you, specifically, are authorising a transaction. No bank, card issuer, payment partner or genuine service provider - including ACRON Ventures - ever needs your OTP read out to them over call, WhatsApp or any messaging app. If someone asks for it, that alone is a strong signal of fraud.
Your CVV and PIN are not for sharing either
The same applies to your card's CVV, card PIN, net-banking password and UPI PIN. These are meant to stay only with you and the systems you personally enter them into (like a bank's official app or a secure payment page) - never with a person on the other end of a call or chat.
Common fraud patterns to recognise
Urgency: being pressured to act immediately or risk losing an offer or facility.
Impersonation: someone claiming to be from your bank, card network or a service provider, asking to 'verify' your card by sharing an OTP or CVV.
Unsolicited contact: being contacted first with an unusually good offer that requires acting quickly.
Requests to install remote-access apps to 'assist' with a transaction.
Good habits for online and card-based payments
Only enter OTPs, PINs and passwords on official banking apps or verified payment pages you navigated to yourself.
Check the payment page URL before entering card details.
Keep your bank's fraud-reporting number saved separately so you can act quickly if something feels wrong.
If in doubt, pause the transaction and verify independently through your bank's official app or customer care number.
ACRON Ventures' commitment
ACRON Ventures will never ask for your OTP, CVV, card PIN, net-banking password or UPI PIN, under any circumstance. If you ever receive such a request claiming to be from us, do not respond and treat it as fraudulent.
